Ceasefire Communication Needs List
Both this list and the one provided by the Center for Nonviolent Communication show a sampling of needs. Neither list is supposed to be complete. Please use whichever one is most helpful to you, or both.
What is different about this list is the categories that highlight some differences in how needs are experienced. Our physical needs tend to intrude on our awareness -- we feel it strongly when they aren't being met. Emotional/Intellectual needs might require us to pay some attention before we recognize them. But our spiritual needs can be so subtle that it's possible to go our entire lives without realizing we have them. Ironically, our happiness seems to be more affected by meeting our spiritual needs than our emotional/intellectual or physical ones.
Please note that, while other people can provide for most of our physical and many of our emotional/intellectual needs, meeting our spiritual needs depends much more on our own initiative.
